TOURNAMENT UPDATE
Teams Show Well at Vardar Cup
August 23rd, 2010

Wixom, MI-  Our teams came up against some of the region's top teams in their first weekend of play and showed well.  Highlights and our 11v11 team of the week can be found below.

u15 Girls went 1-1-1 with a win against Rovers, tie against Novi, and a loss against the state's #2 ranked team in Vardar.  The girls missed out on a semi-final spot in a shootout with Novi.

u14 Boys lost 3 but, were competitive against the eventual winners Vardar, they lost a late lead against Novi, and fell short against Wolves East.

u13 Boys Black tied Ohio Premier 2-2, beat Waza Royal 2-0, and lost 0-2 in the semi-finals to one of the Nation's top rated teams in Vardar.

The u13 Boys White finished a respectable 1-2 in their first games together.

Our u12 Boys advanced to the finals after beating Ole 4-1, Vardar Red, and Vardar.  They fell short in a rematch against Vardar in what turned out to be the third game of the day for the boys.

The u10 Boys has a great weekend with close losses against Vardar and Novi and a solid win against Waza.

The u12 Girls lost in the semi-finals to Vardar after beating the #17 team in the country (Waza Royal 2-0), and losing to the #1 team in the country (Michigan Hawks).  The loss to Vardar was the result of some excellent goalkeeping on the part of the Vardar keeper who saved powerful strikes from Faith Kuzma and Chamberlain Mathis.

The coaching staff has selected an 11v11 team of the week.  With over 70 players in consideration, making this team was a true accomplishment.

Questions officials should ask when determining a handball!

1) Does the player make him or herself bigger?
2) Is the arm or hand in an 'unnatural position'?
3) Did the player benefit?
4) How much time did the player have to react?
5) Is the hand/arm moving to the ball?
