TRY-OUTS are coming!!!!!!!!!! Monday, June 14th, 2010 at Davenport University 6pm-8pm u12 Girls GVSA Alliance Academy '99 Girls Black Earn Regional Ranking The Alliance Academy '99 Girls Black have been recognized by a National Ranking Website. They are currently ranked #3 in Michigan and #12 in Region 2 (Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, Missouri, and Iowa)! Follow this link. Alliance Academy '99 Girls Black Earn National Ranking National Soccer Ranking has come out with their first u11 Girls rankings and the Alliance Academy '99 Girls Black have earned a National Ranking of 26! The team is third in Michigan behind Michigan Hawks and Waza and they are ranked sixth (6) in Region 2! Congratulations to all the girls who have worked so hard to help us reach this level. "Rankings at this age do little more than lay the ground work for future success. The teams winning at this age and those receiving rankings tend to attract committed players and higher quality athletes. But, without serious commitment and dedication, players and teams that succeed at this age are quickly left behind," Coach Abrahm Shearer commented. Alliance Academy '99 Girls Black Return as COSA Fall Classic Champions A highlight of the weekend for the u11 Age group was the girls role model presentations. Because one of the goals for the team is to improve communication and leadership, the girls were asked to read a book on a female role model and speak for 1-2 minutes in front of the team on the major points. Alliance Academy '99 Girls Black Win Celtic Cup The Alliance Academy '99 Girls Black (Playing u12 GVSA Elite) continued their successful tournament run by topping a 24 team Palatine Celtic Cup field. The girls played the entire weekend without starting goalkeeper Taryn Meiste who was sidelined with a broken hand and were forced to adjust to a IYS (Illinois Youth Soccer) imposed 9v9 format. "These two factors caused us some issues in our first match. We were still in an adjustment period when we found ourselves down 2-0 to Inter Chicago," said team coach Abrahm Shearer. The team eventually settled in behind the goalkeeping of Jentri Corey and midfield play of Faith Kuzma and Maddie Alexander. After the first half of their opening match, the girls rattled off thirteen (13) goals in the final 125 minutes of group play. The semi-finals and finals were a test of the girls ability to finish and while they were able to put six (6) goals on the board, they had another 10-15 chances that they failed to convert. "We are going to work very hard over the next few weeks to improve in the area of finishing. The girls are strong defensively and good at holding the ball under pressure so if we can improve in this area, we will be difficult to beat," Shearer noted.
