TOURNAMENT UPDATE u17 Boys Win Group at Ohio Elite Showcase View Blog Here
Grand Rapids, MI- Congratulations to the u17 Boys Academy team for winning their bracket at the Ohio Elite Boys Showcase. The event came with a price as captain and long time team member Manny Weldemicael was rushed to the hospital with a broken clavicle. Everyone wishes Manny a speedy recovery.
On the field, the boys won 1-0, 2-0, and needed a tie against Fairfax (VA) in the final match to win the division outright. Tariq Akeel scored late in the 2nd half and Alliance carried of the play through the match. It seemed as if a win was in the books but, the Alliance boys had to settle for a tie after a clear mistake in the back gifted the Fairfax team a goal.

SUPER Y LEAGUE REPORT Alliance Academy Improves on National Ranking
October 26th, 2009
GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan - The USL announced their end of the season Super Y League club rankings this week and Alliance landed at #18. The top twenty ranking is an improvement over their 2008 ranking of #19 and is an impressive achievement for the club's second year in the league.
"Ultimately, we have two club goals as it relates to the Super Y League. First, we want to win a National Championship and second, we would like to be ranked in the top eleven (11) clubs in the country," said Alliance Academy director Abrahm Shearer.
Clubs are ranked based on a competitive and administrative basis.
In November, three teams, the u14 Boys, u15 Boys, and u15 Girls will be traveling to Florida to compete for for a national title. Clubs can improve their final ranking with strong championship performances but, even if the club wins all three titles, a jump into the first eleven (11) would be mathematically impossible.

Alliance FC Players Increase Exposure Through ODP
August 8th, 2009
Grand Rapids, MI- The 2009 Alliance FC ODP participants were led by Morris Kamara (see photo), a member of the u14 Boys MRL team. Kamara was invited to the National Identification Camp and is among a handful of Grand Rapids based players to participate at this level over the years. "The Alliance FC staff is extremely excited for Mor ris! His work rate and passion for the game are well above average for his age. This opportunity will no doubt inspire him to develop his skills over the next few years. His coach, Zsolt Bertalan has done a great job developing him tactically over the years and should also be commended," Alliance director Abrahm Shearer commented.
Alliance FC Regional Camp participants included Morris Kamara (Regional Team), Bradley Dunwell (Regional Holdover Camp), Marti Corby (Regional Camp), Connor Davison (Regional Camp), and Taylor Vermaat (Regional Camp). Making the Michigan state team were Dunwell, Kamara, Corby, Olivier Larent, Jenna Winkel, Molly Reamon, Esteban Russel, Christian Mullin, Isaac Braak, Derek Braak, Connor Davison, and Dean Akeel. Participating in the '98 camp were Faith Kuzma and Chamberlain Mathis. Participating in the ODP West program are Noah Lockyear, Taryn Kilbane and Lexi Kanta.
A number of Super Y players also had tremendous ODP experiences. Joseph Amico, Kyle Costa, Donald Payne, Jaylen Brown, and Landon Collier participated at the Regional Camp while Dylan Fitzsimmons, Marti Corby, and Mike Leone, and joined Rogers and Collier at the Super Y National ODP camp in Florida.
Shearer concluded, "Our entire staff would like to congratulate the Alliance FC and other West Michigan based kids on their continued success in this and other programs. As we tell all of our players- making one of these teams should provide motivation to work harder for the next event while not making a team should provide even greater motivation for the next go around." |

u13 Boys Boys (Bertalan) Finish Fourth in Michigan's Top League! June 13th, 2009 Lowell, MI- Nearly a month ago, the Alliance FC u13 Boys suffered a heartbreaking, overtime loss to Vardar in the State Cup Quarterfinals. That emotional defeat was completely forgotten tonight as the boys made an incredible leap from ninth to fourth in the P1 standings by downing one of the state's top teams, Michigan Elite . The boys were outshot in the first half 4-1 but, the second half was a much different story as the two teams battled evenly for 34 minutes. With a minute left and a tie seeming inevitable, Justin DeWildt stepped up to take a free kick from 25 yards. Instead of looking for a shot, Justin sent a ball in for his teammates on the far post. Caleb King got on the end of the ball but, his shot caught the crossbar. Fortunately for Alliance Hunter Rowe was in the right position to head it home. Hunter, who travels 2 1/2 hours each way to practices and games saw the goal as making his extra commitment well worth it. "I was feeling pretty bad because I just missed Justin's cross. The next thing I new, Caleb's shot came off the crossbar right there in front of me. I just ran through it and headed it in! It was the most exciting goal I have scored, kids, parents, and everyone went crazy!"The team is now all but assured of a spot in the Midwest Regional League (MRL) for 2009 and the entire team is looking forward to the challenge.

Two Alliance FC Girls Teams Win Midwest Spring InviteApril 29th, 2009 Lowell, MI- Our u13 and u14 Girls took home trophies at the Midwest Spring Invite as a result of superb defensive efforts. The u14s conceded a single goal in four matches while the u13s gave up two. The u13s task was made even more difficult as they played without goalkeeper Alexis D. and back up Clare S.. Fortunately for the team, Rachel S. was up to the task as she made a number of important saves on the weekend.

u12 Boys Partnership leads to National Indoor HonorsFebruary 28th, 2009
Fraser, MI- The u12 Alliance FC boys combined with the Michigan Future Stars to compete at the National Indoor Championships. They were rewarded with a Division 1 championship and a Division 2 runner up trophy.
The
Division 2 FSA team won all of their bracket games scoring sixteen (16)
and giving up only (5) five goals. In their first match, the boys
surprised a strong Cleveland Cobras team and walked away with a 2-1
win. In the title match, the boys came up on the wrong end of the same
score against FC Nova. With a number of missed chances and great saves
by both sides, the 1-1 deadlock wasn't broken until the last few
minutes of the match.
The Division 1 FSA team (pictured above)
made it to the championship match by defeating the top team in Northern
Ohio, the Maumee Express 8-2. Everyone anticipated a great final as
their opponent, the Northern Ohio Elite, beat the same Maumee team
8-1. The finals ended 6-2 with FSA coming out on top.
Commitment
was the theme and player development was the top priority for the
coaches, parents, and boys as they participated in over twenty (20)
hours of training and thirteen matches. By bringing together two of
the top ranked teams in Michigan, the coaches and parents believed that
the individual and team growth was far greater than what they could
have achieved alone.

Alliance Academy is Super Y League's 19th ranked club!
October 21st, 2008
GRAND
RAPIDS, MI- After a modestly successful season on the field, it was
difficult to judge how the Alliance Academy organization stacked up
against the 100+ Super Y League Clubs across the country. The verdict
is in- Alliance Academy is the 19th best club in the Super Y League
for 2008. The ranking is thanks to the United Soccer Leagues effort to
rank and recognize the top performing clubs in the Super Y League.
Using a formula that includes administration and winning percentage
along with other factors. Link to USL Rankings.
"We had it as a goal early on to show our players a true commitment to
training and do our best as an organization in order to be prepared for
the season," Alliance Academy administrator Tara Fiztsimmons said. "As
it turned out, much of our hard work translated to on field success and
we are thrilled to be named along with the top clubs in the country!"
Being ranked 19th also means that the Alliance Academy is (unofficially) the top 1st year club in the country! It
recently came to our attention that the Fort Wayne Fever participated
in the United Soccer Leagues (PDL and W League) for a number of years
but, had not placed any teams in the Super Y League. |
