Here are the highlights. u10 Boys Black and u10 Boys White teams finished 1st and 2nd highlighting the strength in the club's age group. u12 Girls and u13 Girls combined to go five (5) wins against a single loss at the GVSU 11v11 tournament. The weekend was highlighted by a 2-0 win against a strong u12 Girls GR Crew team. u16 Boys played seven (7) matches in two divisions. They came up with a 8-5 win in the u16 Boys Championship match. Super Y National All-Tournament Team's Announced December 8th, 2010 Every day this week, all-tournament teams are being selected by the Super Y League. Each age group had 16 teams competing and selections are made based on opposing coaches recommendations. Making these teams of 13-15 players is very difficult as the boys are in a pool of approximately 250 players. Links to USL Super Y articles are found below. u13 Boys (link)- Bradley Dunwell and Nebojsa (Nash) Popovic u14 Boys (link)- Emmanuel Gorh, Morris Kamara, and Sammy Akpik u15 Boys (link)- Joshua Robison u17 Boys (link)- Esteban Russel and Austin Snyder Notes: Nash who plays MSYSA with Vardar was the Golden Boot winner (leading scorer) for the u13 age group. ![]() Sammy Akpik (pictured left) who normally fills an attacking role for his club Waza was asked to play out of position by Alliance's coaching staff. He dominated play as a Defensive Mid/Stopper helping coach Zsolt Bertalan's team to the semi-finals. Dunwell, Gorh, and Kamara all play for Alliance's u15 Black team. Look for this group of boys to cause all sorts of trouble for Alliance's opposition in the next year. U18 BOYS ENJOY SUCCESSFUL 2010 The u18 Boys Alliance Academy exceeded all expectations when they took 3rd place from the Super Y National Tournament. The group's march to the semi-finals began with an exciting come back after falling behind 2-0 to West Pines (FL) and ended with a convincing 2-0 victory over a strong Real Maryland team. The boys lost to the eventual champions 2-0 after giving up both goals in the final fifteen minutes. This amounted to an amazing 325 minutes of shut-out soccer between their opening match and the waning moments of the semi-final! The boys had a phenomenal 2010 in tournament and league play. October 28th, 2010 On the strength of five boys teams qualifying for the Super Y League National Tournament in Tampa, Florida, Alliance Academy was named the #1 Boys club in North America by the United Soccer Leagues. The achievement is based primarily on on field performance but, also takes into consideration administration. The boys teams took 79% of the available points with the u13 Boys, u15 Boys, and u16 Boys winning their respective divisions. MPS Bulldogs out of Massachusetts were rated a close second. In addition to the Boy's achievement, the club improved it's club rating for the second straight year by reaching an overall mark of 16th. November 10th, 2010 Congratulations to Morris Kamara (below right) and Bradley Dunwell (below left) for being selected for the Thanksgiving Interregional event in Orlando Floriday! The boys made the 18 member squad composed of kids from the fourteen (14) state regions. As players born in 1996, Morris and Bradley will compete at Disney's Wide World of Sports (Orlando, Florida) between November 26th through the 29th. The pool of players invited is cut significantly between the 1997s and 1996s. While 180 players are invited to the '97 camp, Bradley and Morris are two of only 72 players invited from throughout the country to the '96 camp. "These young men share a few very important attributes which have led to their success," commented Director Abrahm Shearer. "First, they commit their best to every training session. They never stop working and pushing themselves even in the most basic of exercises. Secondly, they play with little fear of making mistakes. This quality allows them both to bring a great deal of creativity to the game." Bradley and Morris play for the u14 Boys Black and u15 Boys Black respectively and have both played for Alliance and coach Zsolt Bertalan for the past five (5) years. Good luck to the boys as they work to receive National Team Call Ups in Florida! |
