Tournament Format Explained

4 Teams Round Robin Play with top two teams facing off in finals.  Two teams play four games, two play three games.
5 Teams Round Robin Play - No Finals - All teams play four games!
6 Teams Teams are broken into two pools of three.  Day 1 will have each team playing two games within their pool.  The top two teams from each pool advance to a semi-final round while the bottom team from each pool play a cross-over, consolation match.  The advantage to this format as opposed to a cross-over match counting toward a trip to the finals is that there is no way to ensure that the cross-over opponents are an equal match.  The disadvantage of relying on seeding the teams is overcome by having a four of the six teams advance.
8 Teams This traditional bracket sees two groups of four with the winner of each group advancing to finals.

9 Teams

Our nine (9) team brackets are a departure from typical tournament bracketing that requires a detailed explanation.  The options with nine (9) teams is to form two groups, one of five (5) and one of four (4).

We form three (3) groups of three (3) teams and do our best to seed the teams according to information provided.  The first day will see each team play two qualifying games.  The top team from each pool will qualify for the International flight on Sunday.  These three top teams will then compete for a championship and runner-up.  The second place team from each pool will qualify for the National flight on Sunday.  These three teams will then compete for a championship and runner-up.  In both the International flight and National Flight, the winner will be determined by points.

The third place teams from Saturday's pool will compete in our consolation pool on Sunday.

Advantages to this tournament format:

  • All teams play four (4) matches!
  • Teams will play at least two (2) very competitive matches and most often will see three (3) very good games.  We recognize the fact that this creates the possibility of a mismatch or two on the first day but, feel that
  •   The second day of competition is always a day to look forward to because no matter what, teams are playing for something.

Disadvantages are limited to:

  • Teams competing the first day in a game that might be lopsided.
